For my sophomore history research paper I wrote about Robespierre and how he wasn’t that bad of a dude, and his ideas of fighting for the lower blue collar working class as well as improving France’s education system so early childhood development was available to all children (including women might I add) outweighed the horrible actions that were taken during the Reign Terror which he is unfairly blamed for, because while, yes he was the so called head of it, his future positive plans outweighed the negative effects the Reign of Terror undertook.
Now what did the Reign of Terror do? It killed a bunch of people. And by a bunch, I mean a lot. That being said the goal of the Reign of Terror was to kill or get rid of individuals that threatened the advancement of the French Revolution. Were there some innocent people killed during it? Yeah, there were, but it was never Robespierre’s intention to kill those people, and many of those people were killed under the orders of other Officials that had it out for Robespierre. Now what in the world does Robespierre have to do with David Kahn and the Timberwolves? Well to be honest a lot. Like Robespierre wanted to improve France, Kahn wants to improve the Timberwolves. And like Robespierre, Kahn has undertaken his own little Reign of Terror by getting rid of those that threatened the advancement of the T-Wolves the most: veterans. Unfortunately, just like Robespierre Reign of Terror, people are just outraged over the thought of Kahn killing off veterans in the same fashion people were outraged over Robespierre killing off those that threatened his advancement.
For some reason, people think the T-Wolves were so much better off before David Kahn and his Reign of Terror. Take at a look at the roster before he arrived.
SG- Rashad McCants
PG- Randy Foye
PF- Craig Smith
SF- Ryan Gomes
PG- Kevin Ollie
SF- Corey Brewer
SG/SF- Rodney Carney
PF/C- Al Jefferson
SG/SF- Mike Miller
PF- Mark Madsen
PF- Kevin Love
C- Calvin Booth
PG- Sebastian Telfair
C- Jason Collins
SF/PF- Brian Cardinal
Kahn and his reign of terror got rid of all those guys, except for one: Kevin Love. Through his reign of terror, Kahn has assembled the following team:
PG – Ricky Rubio
PG - Luke Ridnour
PG/SG- Malcolm Lee
SG - Martell Webster
SG - Wayne Ellington
SG/SF- Wes Johnson
F - Lazar Hayward
F – Derrick Williams
F – Anthony Randolph
F - Kevin Love
F- Anthony Toliver
F - Michael Beasley
C - Darko Milic
C - Nikola Pekovic
C- Brad Miller
Now which team do you think is better and has a brighter future? DAVID KAHN’S!!!!!!!!! Besides his reign of terror, Kahn has made a handful of other controversial decisions. However I will now defend them all.
First off: Drafting 4 point guards.
Defense: He never actually drafted 4 point guards. He only really took two. He took Ty Lawson and Mario Chalmers to make trade for future draft picks. Simple as that. Now he did take both Johnny Flynn and Ricky Rubio. People scratch their heads at that and point to that as the reason why Kahn is an idiot. I say not so fast. If you think about, it is simple logic: if draft two highly touted point guards prospects, one has to be good. Right? Unfortunately Johnny Flyn didn’t work out for. Had he, we would have traded Rubio for someone good. But since he didn’t we have Ricky Rubio who will hopefully be good. That being said, Kahn was able to use Flynn to obtain a first round pick in the draft next year, which thanks to Kevin McHale, we didn’t have a pick in! So in doing so, Kahn was still able to get something out of Flynn, along with a veteran presence (Brad Miller) people find so important to have.
Second off: not drafting Steph Curry
Defense: I was never very high on Curry coming out of college. So I am glad we don’t have him. On top of that, just like everyone else on Golden State his offensive numbers are inflated. Listen lot’s people think Steph Curry is really good. And he is, but he is not as good as people think. And honestly, when the draft started out I thought Flynn and Rubio would have a better NBA career than him. So hey, good for Curry proving me wrong, but I personally understand Kahn not taking him and can defend it.
Third off: Taking Wes Johnson over DeMarcus Cousins
Defense: The thought of having Beasley and Cousins on the same team, while hilarious, would be horrible for the team. Also, Cousins adamantly stated he never wanted to be drafted here. So instead, Kahn drafted the best available guy who would come to Minnesota: Wes Johnson. What we have found out about Johnson is that he is an outstanding glue guy, plays defense and is an all around good player you want on your team. Meanwhile, Cousins has caused more headaches for the Kings coaching staff than the Maloofs have caused Casinos.
Fourth off: the hiring of Kurt Rambis
Defense: On paper, Rambis’ coaching resume is outstanding. The fact he got the coaching stamp of approval by Phil Jackson, makes you want to hire him. So I completely understand why Kahn hired him. Unfortunately it just didn’t work out, and things didn’t click. That being said for those to say his hiring was idiotic are idiots themselves. If the greatest NBA coach of all time tells you his assistant coach is available and he believes he will be an outstanding head coach, you take him.
For this year's David Kahn got a draft grade of an A from Chad Ford of ESPN. And while I wish we had drafted Marshon Brooks, some scouts have had Malcolm Lee rated higher. And by trading down and getting Malcolm Lee in the 2nd round, he is not due a guarnteed contract, like he would of beeen had he been drafted in the first round. So all in all I have calmed over the T-Wolves not drafting Brooks. Another thing about Lee is that unlike Brooks he can play the point. With the reported news of Rambis' firing, I am sure Kahn's coaching hiring will also be controversial. That being said when it happens I will be there to defend it. Because unlike Robespierre, Kahn hasn't killed anybody, which makes him a heck of a lot easier to defend.
