Graduation and Sports Fandom

At my school we don't get a cap or robe, we get a wedding.
I GRADUATED!!!!!!!!!!! Ya hear that Ma, your little guy graduated! Look ma, watch me hold my diploma with no hands! Shoot, there it goes lost blowing in the wind!

(Now let me set things straight for a moment now: I didn’t actually lose my diploma in the wind – it is on my dresser - and I didn’t actually hold my diploma in front of my mom with no hands, because well, you see, that would be impossible. I did however hold my diploma with my hands in front of my mom to show her that her son did in fact graduate.)

With that being said it feels kind of weird knowing I have graduated high school. When the marriage ceremony, I mean graduation ceremony – to get that joke you would have to known what high school graduation is like at St. Paul Academy. Anyway let me explain: it is like a wedding. At my school you don’t get the iconic graduation robes or the cool little hats I have dreamed about throwing since I was a toddler. Instead if you are a girl you have to wear a white dress. And as a guy you have to wear a navy blue suit and a tie with WHITE PANTS! That’s right white pants. When the hell am I going to wear white pants again? If I get famous enough and get invited to P. Diddy’s/Puff Daddy’s/Sean ‘Makeup=a-name-and-stick-with-it’ Combs’ “White Party.”; which by all accounts is highly unlikely. Anyway, back to the blog. - was over I didn’t really feel anything. I didn’t really feel like I accomplished anything (unless you consider sitting through one of the most boring commencement speeches of all time.) it will be weird not going back to SPA next year, after spending 13 years at that wonderful school. Anyway I am excited for Ball State.

Now onto some sports oriented posts.

When I found out the Mavs beat the Miami Heat, I had a tiny sports fandom orgasm. The thought of Lebron James loosing got me excited. The thought of David Stern having to hand over Mark Cuban the Larry Obrien Trophy erected (no pun intended) a mountain of joy that will forever stand in my memory. On top of that, Dirk and Jason Kidd finally got the championships they deserve. It was such a joyous night, it put everything back to normal. All the basketball planets aligned because the Mavs beat the heat. Everything is back to the way it should be. Everything I was ever taught as a basketball player still stands true because the Mavs won. A Basketball Team is better than a group of all-stars. Team play beats individual play. To win a championship a team needs just as much chemistry as talent. Teammates need to trust other teammates. Role players are just as important as All-stars. All those facts remain set in stone because the Mavs beat the heat. Everything I was ever taught remains true. Thank you Mavs, for reinforcing what basketball is really about: teamwork.

I watched the Lynx home opener on TV and was not ashamed to put that as my Facebook Status. Also did you know Maya Moore’s Debut Game drew a higher TV rating than any Timberwolves game this season on Fox Sports North!

Ok that the last part wasn’t true, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it was.

Anyway until next time…
