A look at Kahn's young talented roster

Just take a look at the young talent Kahn has put together.
I realize I am in the minority when it comes towards supporting David Kahn. But hey, when you consider I am a white male, it is refreshing to be in the minority ever once and awhile. I don’t really know why I support David Kahn. It might be because no one else supports him, so I feel bad for him and decide to be a Kahn Defender. It might also be because I am delusional – I know that is what some thing. Nonetheless, why I defend him, I don’t really know. However, this is what I do know: hate him or like him, David Kahn has created an appealing nucleus of young talent that will either be a part of the future, or be a piece in a trade for what everyone thinks we need – a veteran. Take a look at the list of young talented players Kahn has acquired.

Ricky Rubio: Who will either be a bust or a second coming of Jason Kidd in his early years minus the bleached blonde hair and rebounding ability.

Derrick Williams: Who in my opinion is the off spring of David West and Blake Griffin. (He has the outside shot and shooting ability of David West, but the athleticism and driving ability of Blake Griffin. Oh, yeah and he can also dribble the ball. He could easily put up the stat line of 15, 8, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in his rookie campaign)

Kevin Love: (side note: why do people say Kevin Love is bad on defense? Sure he doesn’t get blocks and steals, but last time I checked rebounding and taking charges were apart of defense. I think he is unfairly judged as being a poor defensive player because he was on a horrible defensive team.) Who will be the ultimate third wheel to Williams and Rubio. Simply because a. If you have watched K-Love, you know he is not someone who can really create his own shot. He gets offensive rebounds, takes threes and outside shots. This will fit perfectly with Rubio, who will set up K-Love to knock down those shots. And b. he will fit perfectly with Williams because he will be able to clean up the boards on whatever shots he misses.

Wes Johnson: can play both the 2 and 3 and is the ultimate glue guy and all around solid player, every team would like to have. Could also be used in a trade.

Michael Beasley: Many people are suggesting we should trade him. I say we only trade him if there is an offer we can’t refuse. I believe in a year two, when Williams is able to take over the starting spot, Beasley will be the ultimate offensive 6th man. And after seeing what Jason Terry did for the Mavs, having an offensive 6th man come off the bench is a huge tool and benefit for any team.

Anthony Randolph: Like him or not, the guy posses a bunch of talent and potential, and he could be used as an asset in a trade. Also, if he bulks up, he has the ability to be a center, so we might not want to trade him.

With the nucleus of K-Love, Rubio, Williams and/or Beasley the future looks bright. However it is not just the young talent Kahn has acquired that is impressive, the role players and player types every team should have is impressive also. Take a look at the list.

Martel Webster: A three point specialist. Like it or not, every team needs a three point specialist. And the guy is young and has talent. If he ever gets his health together, could be a guy who averages double digit Points Per Game.

Anthony Toliver: Energy Guy, and our black Mark Madsen with a three point shot. ( I love Toliver so I am biased.)

Malcolm Lee: A first round talent, who has been compared to Thabo Sefolosha (the starting shooting guard for the OKC Thunder who plays defense and does the dirty work, while Durant and Westbrook score. And when you think about D-Williams and Beasley being our two main scorers, having a defensive minded 2 guard to shut down the perimeter is greatly needed.)

Darko: An extremely solid defensive Center- dude got a ton of blocks- and would fit perfectly in the role of being the backup center.

Brad Miller: The veteran presence everyone thinks we need! (Happy now!)

Wayne Ellington: A high character guy from North Carolina- so he must know how to ball. While he doesn’t get a lot of minutes, if Malcolm Lee doesn’t work out, he might take his place. While he is not as athletic or versatile as Lee - (Lee can play both the 1 and the 2) – he can certainly make up for what he lacks with his hustle and basketball IQ. And – when Webster isn’t at the 2 spot - with the possible idea of having the reserve lineup be Lee at the 1 and Ellington at the 2, our perimeter defensive won’t be as bad as last year. That being said, if Lee does work out, with the possibility of having three guys ahead of him- Wes, Webster and Lee- releasing or trading Ellington is something we should think about doing because there just won’t be minutes for him.

On that note: speaking of guys we should get rid of-

Lazar Hayword : sorry, there just isn’t any playing time for you, and there are a boatload of other young swingmen more talented than you on the team, sorry.

Luke Ridenhour: We might keep you around for a little bit , but if Rubio and Lee work out playing time will be limited. Sorry, but hey, I hope will guide our rookie PG like you guided the Buck’s Brandon Jennings a few years back.

Pek: We might just keep you around because Darko will need a friend and someone to talk to, but with Brad Miller and Darko ahead of you, playing time will be limited. Also seeing as how we have given up on you being the Center of the future after your first week of practice, we are still looking for one, and once we find one you will either be traded or be our third string center behind your pal Darko.

Lastly, once the Labor situation in the NBA is finished (if ever), the Wolves continue to do a handful of more deals to obtain more quality players. But until then, this is the roster we have for now. Even so, it is a young talented roster… all thanks to Mr. Kahn.
