Interviewing blurbs with no budget

Last night I finished off one of the key components to my senior project: the career awareness interview. For those that don’t know what that means (Yes I am talking to you my two wonderful German fans who have read every single one of my Blog posts) it means that I had to interview someone with a job or in a field I am particularly interested in doing/joining when I become a big old grumpy adult. Anyway the person I did the interview with was Howard Sinker. He is the online coordinator for the Sports section for the Star Tribune. So basically, to put it in pre-historic print journalism terms, he is the editor in chief of the Star tribune Sports Online. Anyway the interview was really cool; it wasn’t the first time we met. Earlier in the year, I think in like early November - because DePaul’s early action application was November 15th (and if you are wondering, yes I got into DePaul. And yes I am probably the only person on the planet to ever choose Ball State and Muncie Indiana over DePaul and Chicago Illinois ) – we met to go over my college essays and stuff. So I had met him before and knew he was a cool dude. At first we chit chatted a little bit, he was wondering where I was going to college and asked how my senior year was going and stuff. I asked him how he was and stuff and then the interview started. The thing I took away with most is that to be a successful journalist, or writer – heck even anything in general- you need to gain exposure. He talked about how these Twins Bloggers they have don’t get paid, but get a ton of exposure and hits, and have even been in the National media like on ESPN, CBS Sports and ext… Anyway during the summer they were offered like a small time gig, but would get paid. So they wondering what to do, but decided to continue to write for the Strib, because that way they continue to get exposure so in the future they can make big Bank. So yeah, it was a really interesting interview, there was a bunch of other stuff we talked about that was one of the highlight I took away most from it.

(I was forced to write that if I wanted to pass my senior project. But really the interview was awesome and enlightening, Thanks again Mr. Sinker. Anyway now onto more entertaining blurbs and writings)

Now that Ricky Rubio has signed with the Timberwolves I changed the websites little header from “Struggling to get page views like a modern day Blacksmith trying to get clients, or like the Timberwolves trying to sign Ricky Rubio,”

to…

“Struggling to get page views like a modern day Blacksmith trying to get clients, or like the State of Minnesota trying to set a budget.”

I think it is kind of funny and stuff.

Also I am going to be really pissed if there is an NFL Lockout. Why? Because I spent the entire day yesterday and today writing a preview for the games the Packers are playing next year. I wrote a little 100-220 word blurb on all the games the Packers are playing, including the horrid pre-season. (I felt like I was selling my soul to the devil when I said people should buy tickets for Packers pre-season games. I feel like a horrible person for saying that. It goes against every code of fan ethics. Telling people to buy preseason tickets, ha, I should be thrown in jail.) So hey, Roger Goodell, if there is an NFL Lockout can you give me two days of my life back? Thanks.

Supposedly a lot of people are talking abut how great the Stanley Cup Finals are just after 1 game. That’s cool, but I still won’t watch. Call me when they do penalty shots to decide Game 7.

Anyway until next time...
